The announcement was made by Kyle Stark, Pittsburgh’s Director of Player Development.
Dean Treanor, who served Triple-A Indianapolis as Pitching Coach in 2010, will manage the club next season.
Prior to joining the Pirates organization in 2009, he spent seven years (2002-08) in the Florida Marlins minor league
system, compiling a 428-415 (.508) record in his six seasons as a manager. Dean is currently managing in the
Dominican Republic – his third straight off-season doing so.
P.J. Forbes will manage Double-A Altoona after guiding Class-A Bradenton to the third-best overall record (76-62)
and a post-season appearance in the Florida State League last year. Forbes joined the Pirates organization in 2009
and managed Lynchburg to a Carolina League Championship that year.
Carlos Garcia will take over the managerial duties at Bradenton after serving as First Base Coach and Infield Instructor
for the Major League team in 2010. He managed Magallanes to a 41-22 record and a spot in the
Championship Series last year during the Venezuelan Winter League.
Gary Robinson will manage Class-A West Virginia in 2011 after serving as manager at State College in 2009-2010.
Dave Turgeon will manage State College in 2011 after spending the last four years as the associate head coach
and pitching coach at Virginia Tech. He has spent the last nine years coaching at the collegiate level after a 13-year
professional playing career.
Tom Prince returns for his fifth season as manager of the GCL Pirates.
Another new addition to the organization will be Justin Meccage, who will serve as the Pitching Coach for State
College. Meccage was the Pitching Coach at Arkansas State in 2010. He joined the ASU coaching staff in August,
2007, after serving as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and pitching coach at Texas-Pan American since 2004.
The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced their minor league coordinators for the 2011 season.
Brad Fischer returns to the Pittsburgh organization after spending the last two years as Milwaukee’s Third Base
Coach. Fischer, who spent the 2008 season as the Pirates minor league catching coordinator and manager at Class-
A State College, will serve as Advisor, Player Development.
Jim Benedict will spend his second straight season as a Special Assistant to the General Manager and the Pirates
minor league pitching coordinator.
Frank Kremblas, who managed Triple-A Indianapolis the last two seasons, will serve the organization as its Coordinator
of Instruction. He replaces Jeff Banister, who joined the Major League staff, in that role.
Jeff Livesey has been named the Hitting Coordinator for the 2011 season. Livesey, who coached the last five years
in Japan, spent eight seasons (1998-2005) in the Pittsburgh organization - most recently as manager of the GCL Pirates
in 2005. He was also the Hitting Coach at various levels of the system for seven years.
Kimera Bartee returns for his fourth season as the Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator.
Gary Green will serve the Pirates as their Infield Coordinator. Entering his sixth season with the organization,
Green spent the last four years as a manager in the South Atlantic League with West Virginia and Hickory.
Luis Dorante, who spent the last three seasons as the Bullpen Coach at the big league level, will serve the club as
its Latin America Field Coordinator, replacing Euclides Rojas, who is now the Pirates Bullpen Coach.
Scott Mitchell has been named the Assistant Pitching Coordinator. He spent the last two seasons as Pitching
Coach at the Triple-A level with the Florida Marlins and the last eight years overall in the Florida organization.
Bernie Holliday (Mental Conditioning Coordinator), Carl Randolph (Training Coordinator), Marc Oceguera
(Rehab Coordinator), Chris Sobonya (Strength and Conditioning Coordinator) and Kiyoshi Momose (Latin America
Strength & Conditioning Coordinator) will all be returning in their same capacities for the 2011 season.
