Pirates Sign Tim Wood

Right-hander Tim Wood has agreed to terms on a minor league deal with the Pirates and will be a non-roster invite in spring training.

Wood spent time with three different organizations in 2011. He was with Washington in spring training before being released and signing a minor league deal with Pittsburgh on March 31.

Wood went on to finish second among all Pittsburgh farmhands with 23 saves and he tied for second among International League pitchers in that department. In addition, he was named to the league's post-season All-Star team after going 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA (44.1ip/14er) in 40 appearances with Indianapolis.

Wood also made 13 appearances with the Pirates from June 10 to July 1. He was designated for assignment on August 18 and was claimed off waivers by Texas the same day. Wood finished the season making four relief appearances with Triple-A Round Rock.
