Pirates' right-hander A.J. Burnett has a fractured orbital bone in his right eye and will have surgery Friday in Pittsburgh.

Burnett was injured on Wednesday when he fouled a bunt back into his face during a drill.

There's no word yet regarding a timetable for his return, but missing even a couple of weeks would likely derail him for the start of the season as it ultimately limits the time he will have to build up endurance during spring training.
