A couple of walk off losses leave a bad taste in the organization's mouth. On a night when Freid, Portillo, Garces, and Andreisse pitch, all were outpitched by Tucson's Matt Jackson.

Tucson Padres 6 – Fresno Grizzlies 2

Key Stats: Matt Jackson 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 4 K; Jedd Gyorko PH 1-1, HR (20); Anthony Contreras 3-5, 2B, RS RBI

Matt Jackson threw seven shutout innings in the Tucson Padres 6-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Monday at Chukchansi Park. Jackson has yet to allow a run in his two starts in Triple-A.

The Padres scored in the top of the second on Daniel Robertson’s two-out RBI single to right field. Anthony Contreras followed with a single to bring home Jackson and Robertson also scored on the play on a throwing error by Grizzlies center fielder Ryan Lollis. Rocky Gale’s RBI single in the third and back-to-back doubles by Contreras and Merchan in the top of the fourth increased the Padres lead to 5-0. Every Padres batter had at least one hit in Monday’s contest.

The Grizzlies had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, but a barehanded play by Contreras at shortstop and a nice scoop at first base by Sawyer Carroll ended the threat. Tucson added another run to their lead in the top of the eighth when Jedd Gyorko hit a pinch-hit home run. Fresno broke up the Padres shutout with two runs in the ninth inning on three hits.

The win was Jackson’s second in Tucson. He surrendered four hits and struck out four batters in the game. Grizzlies starter Yusmeiro Petit went five innings, allowing 11 hits and four earned runs in his sixth loss of the year. Fresno’s Francisco Peguero’s extended his hitting-streak to 21 games with an infield single in the first inning. He is tied for the third longest streak in the Pacific Coast League this season.

San Antonio Missions 3 – Arkansas Travelers 4

Key Stats: Adys Portillo 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 K; Reymond Fuentes 2-4, RS; Rymer Liriano 0-2, K

Portillo pitched better, but still struggled with location. In 5.2 IP, Portillo threw 101 pitches, 62 for strikes. In 6 AA start, Portillo has walked 19 batters in 26 innings. One problem for him might be tiredness on his arm. Despite being healthy most of the year last year, Portillo still managed only 82.1 innings last year. This year he is now at 117.2, or how many innings he had in his first 2 years (09’-10’) combine (114.2).

Missions would tie the game in the 8th on an RBI single by Rincon. The score would remain tied until the bottom of the 9th, Daniel Strange came on to pitch. After a leadoff single, Arkansas’ batter Ramirez would lay down the sac bunt. Unfortunately, Strange threw it down the RF line. Runner would go to 3rd, with no outs and that was the game.

High Desert 6 – Lake Elsinore Storm 5

Key Stats: Matt Andriesse 5.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K; Chris Bisson 2-5, 3B, 2 RS; Casey McElroy PH 1-1, 2B, RBI

Storm go 2-12 with RISP and have 3 runners CS in the loss.

The Storm would take the lead in the top of the 9th, when Casey McElroy hit a PH double to score Tate, giving the Storm a 5-4 lead. Unfortunately, with Quackenbush being used the last few days, the Storm went with Jerry Sullivan. Sullivan let his wildness get the best of him. A 1 out strikeout and WP would put a runner on 1st. After an RBI double, Sullivan would get a ground out for what should have been the end of the game. With a runner on 3rd and 2 outs, Sullivan would throw another wild pitch to let the runner from 3rd score and end the game.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 1 – Dayton Dragons 11

Key Stats: Frank Garces 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 6 K; Austin Hedes 2-3, 2B, RS, PB (14)

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- Fort Wayne managed only four hits off of Dayton, and the Dragons crushed the TinCaps 11-1 Monday night. The win gives Dayton a two games to one lead in the four-game series. Dayton (24-30, 54-70) struck in the second inning, when Juan Silva doubled with two outs and was driven in on a single by Nick O’Shea.

The TinCaps (32-24, 63-63) had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the second. Austin Hedges was hit by a pitch, and Connor Powers reached on an error. Both moved up on a wild pitch, but Kyle Gaedele grounded out, and Jace Peterson flied out to end the threat.

Sean Buckley added to the Dragons lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run, his team-leading 11th round tripper. Dayton scored three more runs in the sixth, as Yorman Rodriguez walked to lead off the inning and Jefry Sierra hit a single to chase Fort Wayne starter Frank Garces (9-5). Buckley followed with a RBI double off reliever Dennis O’Grady, and Silva hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-0. Fort Wayne got on the board in the sixth inning. Dan Jensen relieved starter Jacob Johnson (2-5) and gave up a leadoff double to Hedges. Gaedele grounded into a fielder’s choice to move Hedges to third, and Tyler Stubblefield drove him in with a single.

Dayton stretched its lead with three runs in the seventh. With one out, Sammy Diaz walked and Rodriguez followed with a double to put two men in scoring position. Sierra and Buckley followed with run-scoring singles, and Silva drove in another run, grounding into a fielder’s choice, making it 9-1. Dayton tacked on two more in the ninth on a two-run home run by Rodriguez.

Key Stats: Justin Hancock 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 6 K; Corey Adamson 3-5, 3 RBI, SB (13); Dane Phillips 2-3, 2B, RS, BB

Ems would score 2 runs in the 5th thanks to 2 2B, and RBI singles by Smith and Adamson to take a 3-0 lead. That would be all they need as the pitching was fantastic.

AZL Cubs 1 – AZL Padres 5

Key Stats: Max Freid 2 IP, 2 H, 1 K; Andrew Lockett 2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 K; Jairo Gomez 2-4, 3B, 2 RS, RBI
