Two blowout wins as Tucson and San Antonio outscore their opponents 17-0 through the first three innings. Elsewhere, Fort Wayne has their offense shutdown as they lose for the first time in a week.

Tucson Padres 12 – Round Rock Express 1

Key Statistics LF Jonathan Galvez 3-4, 2B, 3 RS, 3 RBI; C Rene Rivera 4-4, 2B, 2 RS, RBI; DH Cody Decker 3-4, 2 2B, RS, 3 RBI, BB.

Prospect Watch: RF James Darnell started the game going 2-3, RS, 2 RBI, however when he came to the plate in the sixth he took his practice swings and started favoring his arm. He was removed for a pinch hitter. While there is no report on the apparent injury, no news is good news and he is currently day-to-day… With Hundley and Grandal at catcher there is not much need for insurance on the AAA level. Despite that Rene Rivera continues to impress. He is now hitting .477 in May and .402/.452/.511 overall. While he might not make the Padres, his numbers will lure him to a club in need of catching depth when he is able to exercise his out clause on June 15th.

San Antonio Missions 11 – Corpus Christi Hooks 5

Key Statistics CF Reymond Fuentes 2-4, 2B, RS, HBP; RF Rico Noel 2-4, RS, 3 RBI, BB, SB (28); DH Everett Williams 2-6, HR (1), 2 RS, 3 RBI.

Prospect Watch: The outfield in San Antonio continues to impress. Each of the regular starting three outfielders had multi-hit games. While Reymond Fuentes continues to lead the league in batting average, the offense of Rico Noel has been the difference recently. After hitting just .196 in April, Noel has hit .349 thus far in May. Even more noticeable is his walk to strikeout ratio. In April Noel had 8 walks to 28 strikeouts. In May that number has shifted to 10 walks to 8 strikeouts.

. Bowling Green Hot Rods 3 – Fort Wayne TinCaps 2

Key Statistics RHP Joe Ross 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K; RHP Michael Kelly 1 IP, 0’s; 3B Gabriel Quintana 1-4, HR (4), RBI

Prospect Watch: Fort Wayne snapped their six game winning streak with Ross suffering his first defeat on the season. The TinCaps had gone 6-0 in Ross’ previous starts. Ross was dominant through the first five innings, but in the sixth he started to be hit around surrendering two runs on two hits and a walk. It was the second consecutive start that Ross was dominant early on before being hit around in the latter part of the game… Fellow 2011 supplemental first round pick Michael Kelly was just called up to Fort Wayne and pitched a 1,2,3 inning. What is special about this is last year Kelly did not post a 1,2,3 inning in Fort Wayne, and allowed more walks (18) than innings pitched (14.1).

For further reading on the TinCaps’ please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.
