It's Polanco time for Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates today have recalled outfielder Gregory Polanco from Triple-A Indianapolis after placing infielder Neil Walker on the 15-day disabled list last night.

In 62 minor league games this season, the 22-year-old Polanco hit .347 (86-for-248) with 17 doubles, five triples, seven home runs, 49 RBI and 15 stolen bases. Polanco is currently leading the International League in hits, RBI, batting average (min: 200 AB) and total bases (134) and he hit .341 (14-for-41) with a homer, four RBI and 10 runs scored in his last nine games (all from the leadoff spot).

Ranked by as the 12th-best prospect in all of baseball and as Pittsburgh's top prospect, Polanco reached base safely in each of his first 11 games this season and was named the International League Player-of-the-Month for April after hitting .400 (38-for-95) with six doubles, four homers, 25 RBI and 21 runs scored in 24 games.

Polanco was selected to the 2013 Florida State League mid-season All-Star team and participated in last year's MLB Futures Game at Citi Field in New York. He was also named Pittsburgh's Minor League Player-of-the-Year and a South Atlantic League mid- and post-season All-Star in 2012 after batting .325 with 26 doubles, 16 home runs, 85 RBI and 40 stolen bases in 116 games with West Virginia.
