Waiting Over ? Sanchez Called Up

When Pittsburgh obtained Freddy Sanchez at last season's trade deadline from Boston for pitchers Jeff Suppan and Brandon Lyon, he was heralded as the cure to everything that ailed the Pirates middle infield. He was a stellar defensive player with great range and had not hit under .300 in the minors since 2000, his first season in rookie ball.<p>Since that July 31, 2003 deal the Pirates have waited anxiously to see Sanchez perform.<br><br>And waited....And waited....And waited.

"It's been the longest year ever for me," Sanchez said. "There were a lot of downs instead of ups." Sanchez was recalled from Nashville Tuesday as part of the Pirates end of season roster expansion.
