Pirates Place Randa on DL

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed third baseman Joe Randa on the 15-day disabled list because of a bruised right foot.

The move is retroactive to May 2.

Randa has not played since May 1. He is wearing a boot on his right foot as part of treatment for inflammation that is the result of a severe bone bruise.

Pirates' manager Jim Tracy said Randa still is having some problems with his flexibility.

"Basically, he doesn't have a lot of that just yet."

Randa sustained a bone bruise and minor stress fracture in his right foot after fouling a ball off it on April 18.

In 22 games this season, Randa is batting just .221 with one homer and seven runs batted in.

The Pirates recalled infielder Jose Bautista from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the vacant roster spot.

Bautista, in 29 games with Indianapolis, was hitting .277 with two homers and nine runs batted in.
