Santos a Surprise

Pirates right-hander Victor Santos once might have been the logical choice to be bumped from the rotation when Kip Wells returns. He had a poor spring training and made the rotation by apparent default. He was little better once the season got going, with a 1-5 record through 10 starts.

But Santos has excelled in winning three of his past four,a span in which he has given up four earned runs in 19 innings. It probably would take a total collapse between now and Wells' return for him to be booted.
