The Pirates are holding informal workouts at PNC Park in place of the usual mini camp at Bradenton FL. Left-handed pitcher Shane Youman is among the handful of players working out this week. Youman had a cup of coffee late in this season with the Bucs and posted a 0-2 record with a 2.91 ERA.

Youman, 26, began the season at Double-A Altoona, where he went 7-2 with a sparkling 1.51 ERA in 23 games, including 11 starts, and was named to the Eastern League All-Star team. After posting a 4-0 mark and a 4.04 ERA with Triple-A Indianapolis. Youman spoke with's George Von Benko.

GVB-- What has the off-season been like for you?

SY-- It's been kind of busy. I've been doing a lot of moving around and going to see people and things like that. But since the holidays I've settled down and habe been getting into my workouts on a consistent basis. From here on out it will be pretty much smooth sailing working out getting ready for spring training.
