Pirates Invite Monroe And Perez To Camp

The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms with the following two players on Minor League contracts with an invitation to Spring Training.

Craig Monroe (OF) - Hit .202 (33-for-163) with nine doubles, eight home runs, 29 RBI and 22 runs scored in 58 games in 2008 with the Minnesota Twins...Has a .253 career batting average (661-for-2612) with 144 doubles, 112 home runs and 417 RBI in 780 games in the big leagues with Texas (2001), Detroit (2002-07), Chicago Cubs (2007) and Minnesota Twins (2008)...Had a career-high 28 home runs and 92 RBI for the American League champion Detroit Tigers in 2006.

Miguel Perez (C) - Hit .281 (48-for-171) with four doubles, two home runs and 22 RBI in 57 games while spending the entire 2008 season with Double-A Altoona...Threw out 15 of the 40 runners attempting to steal against him (37.5 percent)...Hit .327 (18-for-55) in 20 games following the Eastern League All-Star break.

The Pirates have now invited a total of 14 players to big league camp this spring.
