Vasquez spent the entire 2008 season with Toledo, Detroit’s Triple-A affiliate, and went 12-12 with a 4.81 ERA, 115
strikeouts and 37 walks in 27 starts. The 26-year-old California native also tossed two complete games and shared
the International League lead with two shutouts.
Originally selected by Detroit in the seventh round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, Vasquez made his Major
League debut with the Tigers in 2007 and went on to make a total of five appearances (three starts) with Detroit that
season. In his six minor league seasons (2003-08), Vazquez has posted a 54-48 record, a 4.25 ERA, 610 strikeouts
and 185 walks in 140 starts.
Following the 2008 season, Vazquez was claimed off waivers by Boston on October 28. He was then claimed off
waivers by San Diego on January 9
