“We are very pleased to add Perry Hill to our Major League Coaching staff,” said Huntington. “Perry is well respected and widely regarded as one of the best infield instructors in professional baseball and his track record of teaching infield defense is second to none. His teaching abilities and 23 years of coaching experience will have a positive impact on our Major League players, coaching staff and our Player Development system.”

Hill began his coaching career in the Texas Rangers organization with Class-A Tri Cities in 1984. He spent 13 seasons with Texas (1984-1996), including four at the Major League level as the First Base Coach and Infield Instructor (1992-95).

In his three seasons as Detroit’s Third Base and Infield Coach (1997-99), Hill led the ’97 squad to the American League’s top fielding mark as the Tigers became the first team ever to go from worst to first in fielding percentage in consecutive seasons.
