The Pirates say that just three of the 12 spots on their pitching staff are locked up. Left-hander Paul Maholm will front the rotation. Lefty Zach Duke appeared to emerge as a potential No. 1 starter by going 8-2 with a 1.81 ERA as a rookie in 2005, but he is 18-37 since then. He is hoping to rebound with a solid season. PiratesDugout.com's George Von Benko spoke with Duke recently.
